Meet Carine Phan, the Vietnamese-French entrepreneur whose love of travel, creativity, and caring for others inspired Bella Gaïa Hydration Head Spa.

✦ ✦ ✦

Some people dream of opening a restaurant. Others dream of designing clothes or building the next big company.

Carine Phan? After more than a decade working in the spa equipment industry, she had a surprisingly simple wish.

She wanted someone to wash her hair.

Not exactly what you'd expect from a former Chief Operating Officer. But sometimes, the best business ideas don't begin in a boardroom. Sometimes, they begin with a question:

Why is it so difficult to find somewhere I can sit down, relax, and let someone take care of me for a change?

That question eventually became Bella Gaïa Hydration Head Spa in Jersey Village, Houston.

But the story behind Bella Gaïa began long before its doors opened.

A Vietnamese Heart, a Parisian Upbringing, and a Dream of Flying

Born in Vietnam and raised in Paris, France, Carine grew up between two cultures, each shaping her appreciation for beauty, hospitality, and the little pleasures that make life special.

From a young age, she was fascinated by airplanes, airports, and the excitement of discovering new places. She dreamed of becoming a flight attendant.

But it wasn't only about traveling to beautiful destinations. There was something about the experience of welcoming passengers, making them comfortable, and looking after people during their journeys that appealed to her.

She attended flight attendant training and even experienced the aviation industry through an internship with XL Airways.

However, family expectations encouraged her to follow a more traditional career path in business and management. So she went to business school. Her dream of flying around the world would have to take a different route.

As it turned out, life had other destinations in mind.

Different Careers, One Thing in Common: Making People Happy

Before entering the spa industry, Carine explored her creative side in Paris.

She owned three flower shops: Amour et Une Fleur, Florina, and Florïana Design.

Her work extended beyond selling flowers into wedding design, event planning, and creating beautiful spaces for special occasions.

There was something deeply satisfying about being part of someone's happiest moments. A bride seeing her wedding decorations for the first time. A couple celebrating a new chapter. A room transformed with flowers, colors, and thoughtful details.

For Carine, the most rewarding part wasn't simply creating something beautiful. It was seeing the happiness it brought to others.

And perhaps that explains why her childhood interest in aviation and her career in wedding design were not so different after all.

Both were about hospitality. Both required attention to detail. And both involved anticipating people's needs and creating an experience they would remember.

Of course, working with weddings wasn't always as romantic as it looked. Behind every beautiful celebration were endless preparations, last-minute requests, tight schedules, and the occasional moment when absolutely everything needed to happen at once.

✦ ✦ ✦

Anyone who has worked in weddings knows that making magic for others sometimes requires a little magic of your own.

✦ ✦ ✦

Still, Carine enjoyed the challenge. She loved creating, organizing, welcoming, and making people feel special. It was a passion that would follow her throughout her career.

From Creative Entrepreneur to Corporate Executive

Eventually, Carine's journey brought her to Houston, Texas, where she entered the spa furniture and equipment industry.

What began as a position in sales grew into a career spanning more than ten years. Over time, she worked her way up to Chief Operating Officer, learning the industry from the inside.

Business management, customer relationships, equipment, operations, employees, budgets, and deadlines became part of her everyday life.

It was a different world from Parisian flower shops and wedding celebrations. But the underlying purpose still felt familiar. In the wedding industry, she helped create memorable moments for couples. In the spa equipment industry, she worked with businesses whose purpose was to provide comfort, beauty, and personal care.

The setting had changed, but the connection to service remained.

And while she enjoyed the professional challenges, she also discovered something every busy professional understands. When you spend your days taking care of responsibilities, people, and problems, it becomes very easy to forget about yourself.

Meetings. Phone calls. Emails. Decisions.

And even after leaving the office, the mind doesn't always clock out.

Carine knew the spa industry from a business perspective. But she also knew what it felt like to be the customer who needed a break.

All She Really Wanted Was a Good Hair Wash

Whenever Carine traveled back to Vietnam, there was one little pleasure she always looked forward to.

Getting her hair washed.

Not the quick shampoo and rinse before a haircut. Something slower, more comforting, and much more relaxing.

In Vietnam, Gội đầu dưỡng sinh is a traditional wellness-inspired hair-washing experience that combines scalp care, gentle touch, and relaxation. For Carine, it was one of life's simple luxuries.

No emails. No ringing phone. No one asking her to make another decision.

Just close her eyes, relax, and enjoy having someone take care of her.

For someone who had spent years looking after customers, employees, and business responsibilities, that little moment meant more than it might seem.

Back in Houston, however, finding the same experience wasn't always easy. There were a few places offering head spa services, but the options were limited. And sometimes, the prices seemed high for an experience centered mainly around hair washing.

Carine began imagining something different.

What if there were a place where someone could enjoy a proper hair wash, scalp hydration, hair treatments, and facial care during one relaxing visit? Somewhere beautiful and welcoming, without the feeling that every little extra came with another charge? A place designed for busy people who simply wanted to sit down, close their eyes, and let someone else take care of things for a while?

The more she thought about it, the more the idea made sense. And having spent over a decade in the spa industry, she had the experience to turn that idea into something real.

When Vietnamese Traditions Meet Korean Innovation

Carine began researching ways to combine the relaxing hair-washing traditions she loved in Vietnam with Korean-inspired head spa techniques.

Vietnamese Gội đầu dưỡng sinh brought the comforting ritual of scalp care, hair washing, and relaxation. Korean head spa techniques introduced additional approaches to scalp hydration, hair treatments, steam, and modern equipment.

Rather than choosing one, she decided to bring elements of both together. That became the foundation of Bella Gaïa Hydration Head Spa.

But there was one important detail. Carine didn't want to create another trendy head spa where the main attraction was simply a beautiful Halo Waterfall.

Yes, the waterfall is part of the experience. And yes, it's lovely. But she wanted guests to leave remembering more than the equipment.

Depending on the package, Bella Gaïa combines scalp and hair care, hydration treatments, facial steam and masks, light therapy, and other carefully planned relaxation elements. The staff follows Bella Gaïa's hands-on service training, with appropriately licensed professionals performing treatments within their qualifications.

For Carine, every detail matters. The comfort of the guest. The atmosphere of the room. The way the service flows. The feeling of being welcomed and cared for.

And just as importantly, the price. She wanted to offer a complete, thoughtful experience at a fair price. Because luxury, in her eyes, isn't necessarily about expensive things.

Sometimes, luxury is simply having someone give you their time, attention, and care.

Now Boarding: A Little Escape Without the Airport

That childhood dream of becoming a flight attendant? It never completely disappeared.

Carine still loves aviation, travel, and the feeling of beginning a new journey. So when she created Bella Gaïa, she couldn't resist bringing a little airline inspiration into the experience.

Instead of traditional spa package names, guests choose between Premium Class, Business Class, and First Class. There's also Duo Voyage, designed for two people to share the experience.

It's a playful touch, but it carries a personal meaning. What Carine loved about aviation wasn't only the excitement of arriving somewhere new. It was also the experience of the journey itself.

Being welcomed. Feeling comfortable. Knowing someone had thought about the little details. And having someone there to take care of you.

She wanted Bella Gaïa to offer that same feeling. Only this time, there's no need to book a plane ticket. No baggage fees. No delayed flights. And thankfully, nobody is asking you to fasten your seat belt.

Just arrive, settle in, and enjoy your own little escape.

The Meaning Behind Bella Gaïa

The name Bella Gaïa means Beautiful Earth. It's a fitting name for someone whose life has crossed countries, cultures, careers, and continents.

But Bella Gaïa was never meant to be simply another place to wash your hair or enjoy a facial. Carine wanted to create a place where people could feel comfortable taking a break.

A place where busy professionals could forget their emails for a moment. Where parents could enjoy an hour without being needed. Where friends and couples could share a peaceful experience. And where anyone carrying too much on their mind could sit down, breathe deeply, and enjoy being cared for.

After years spent creating beautiful moments for others, from weddings in Paris to spa experiences in Houston, she understood something important. People don't always remember every detail of a service. But they remember how someone made them feel.

That became the philosophy behind Bella Gaïa's slogan:

Clear your headspace.

It's a simple invitation to put everyday worries aside, even if only for a little while. Because not everyone has the time or budget to take a vacation. But everyone deserves a moment to breathe.

A Journey That Comes Full Circle

Looking back, Carine's professional journey might seem like a collection of very different chapters.

✈ A young girl in Paris dreaming of becoming a flight attendant.

✈ A business student following a more traditional career path.

✈ A creative entrepreneur designing weddings and running her own flower shops.

✈ A sales representative who worked her way up to Chief Operating Officer in the spa industry.

✈ And finally, the founder of Bella Gaïa Hydration Head Spa.

Different countries. Different careers. Different experiences. But one thing has remained surprisingly consistent: her love of creating experiences that make people feel happy, comfortable, and cared for.

Perhaps that's why Bella Gaïa feels like such a natural continuation of her journey. The creativity of Paris. The comforting traditions of Vietnam. The business experience she developed in Houston. The hospitality that first attracted her to aviation. And the simple pleasure of having someone wash her hair. All coming together in one place.

Today, Bella Gaïa welcomes people looking for a little escape from their daily routines. Some come to celebrate a special occasion. Some come with friends or loved ones. Others simply want a quiet moment after a long, exhausting week.

And that's exactly the kind of place Carine wanted to create. Because after spending so much of her life taking care of others, she understands how wonderful it feels when someone says:

✦ ✦ ✦

Now, it's your turn. Let us take care of you.

And perhaps there's something fitting about the way her story unfolded. The young woman who once dreamed of taking care of passengers in the sky eventually found another way to welcome people, make them comfortable, and take them on a little journey.

Only now, the destination is much closer to home.

You don't always need to travel far to feel like you've gotten away. Sometimes, all it takes is a warm welcome, a peaceful atmosphere, and someone who knows how to give you a really good hair wash.
